This past weekend, Breakthrough Miami held a volunteer celebration for all the volunteers at the eight Breakthrough Miami sites on Saturday, April 27, at THesis Hotel Miami.

Sean Alba ’25 won not only Breakthrough Volunteer of the Year for the Saint Andrew’s site but was also named the Breakthrough Volunteer of the Year for the entire Breakthrough Miami program. Sean and Finnley Pratt ’25 received awards for having perfect attendance. Hannah Anglemyer ’26, Maggie Kniskern ’26, Jonah Weiner ’26, and Sabrina Greenberg ’26 also received awards.

Saint Andrew’s partnership with Breakthrough Miami is one of the ways the school is committed to its strategic plan’s initiative to cultivate a distinctive culture and community. The partnership helps Saint Andrew’s maintain a stronger connection to the greater community.

As a nationally recognized academic and social enrichment program serving under-resourced youth in South Florida for 30 years, Breakthrough Miami uses a “students-teaching-students” model to create a rigorous learning community where traditionally underrepresented 5th-12th grade students striving for opportunity are supported to achieve post-secondary success, and emerging leaders are inspired to become the next generation of educators and advocates.
